One reader says, "Dancing on Mars is a genre-bender, mixing interview, memoir and original poems. It's a feast, not an appetizer!"

Here's how author Cassie Premo Steele describes it: "They say 'the truth shall set you free,' and here it is: a truth-telling memoir about growing up in the small-town, segregated South—politics, sex and religion; relationship, marriage and motherhood; loss, healing, feminism and enlightenment; and the bare beauty of a life by the water's edge. . . ."

There are also some fascinating insights from other women on the subject of living married and single lifestyles— and a sprinkling of original poems to amplify relevant prose.

One reviewer says, "This is EveryWoman's book—every age, every experience. You will laugh, cry and learn through this fascinating, honest and courageous journey to one woman's truth, but you won't put it down." A few wise men have enjoyed it and learned more about women.

You'll find a book trailer here and photos from the hometown in Dancing on Mars. I'll be posting comments and sharing book reviews, writing about themes presented in the book, and sometimes commenting on the events of the day. Humor will be in the mix; it's a high-value aspect of my life.

"Fearless Writer"

Being a neurotic soul, I have to admit to feeling anxious at times during this process, especially just before the book was released.  It is humbling that some readers think sharing as I did in DANCING ON MARS took courage.  One day I hope to discover I've absorbed that thought and internalized fearlessness.   Here's the most recent Amazon review— sunshine on a cloudy morning:

April 19, 2012 - Lucinda Shirley is a fearless, articulate writer. She takes us on a personal journey, but also on a journey to which all women can relate. This book runs the gamut of emotions. You will laugh out loud at her sassy wit, but be prepared to cry as well. She is brutally honest about her weaknesses as well as her strengths. This book truly deserves a five star rating.

A DANCING ON MARS Review by "Serenada"

This author has produced a totally satisfying book out of experiences all women can relate to on some level. Told with unusual candor and delightful humor, the sad parts are pure and the funny parts clear. Lucinda Shirley's search for understanding her life and, finally, establishing it on terms that work for her best self is a story dotted with insights into what makes us who we are. She delved and faced the unhappy and problematic, all the while celebrating the joy to be found all around. Her look at married vs. single acquaintances exposes the breadth of choices and decisions women make and why. Lovely, appropriately themed poetry accessorizes each step - a talent that needs its own showcase. If you've never examined yourself and your life in a deep way, you'll find yourself doing it while reading this book. Consider it a layman's guide and Ms. Shirley's gift. I say "thanks"!

Sharing DANCING ON MARS

I appreciate that friends are asking how they can help spread the word about DANCING ON MARS; here's how:

You can create a Wish List (public) on Amazon and put DANCING ON MARS on it; you could ask friends to do the same.  If you've read it and like it, a short review on Amazon and any other online sites, blogs, etc. would be excellent.  Goodreads and Shelfari are two sites for book lovers to create a reading list and also a list of "want to reads."  Having DANCING ON MARS show up there would be lovely.

And then a shout-out or "Like" on Facebook or Twitter is always helpful!

Of course the book is available at Amazon in paperback and for Kindle.  The publisher says it will be available for Nook soon.  I will let know when that happens.

Thank you for not only affirming my work but supporting the book by getting the word out!
